Chasing joy

I’m getting ready to embark on a six-day mini tour with my man Pit – not only my favorite entertainer, but my role model. I’m a student of the man who, outside the arena, is a pretty incredible human. While he has many Pitisms, his most consistent message is in living life – or as he says, “Live life, don’t let life live you.”

To that point, I want to encourage you to chase joy, whatever it is that lights you up, keeps you present, makes your heart smile. I think so many of us are waiting…for permission, for the kids to graduate, for retirement, for that elusive ‘one day’. [Insert your excuse here.]

But what I finally realized is that there is no one day, there is only today. If you don’t make your joy a priority right now, when are you going to finally do it?

That doesn’t mean that every day is a concert or a trip or something extraordinary. It could be writing a poem that only you will read, painting a piece that no one will ever see, planting a flower, taking a class, wearing that crazy costume to the Ren Fest. It could be simply showing up at work to share your talents and brighten someone else’s day. It can literally be anything that feels relevant and joyful to you.

Your friends and family may not understand. They don’t need to. You don’t owe anyone explanations. Because here’s what I know for sure – when you stand in your joy, when you own your happiness, everyone around you will feel it. Many will celebrate it. Some will judge it. Respectfully – that doesn’t matter. What anyone thinks about the way you find joy isn’t your business.

Your business is living a life that sets your soul on fire.

I hope you take that business as seriously as you do everything else, because it’s the real game changer.

I’d love to hear how you find joy.
